Guide on Canadian Retail Banking
Course Overview
This 8-hour course is designed for students who are interested in learning more about the Canadian retail banking industry, or even determined to get into the Canadian retail banking industry, including wealth management, private banking, investment advisory, and retail banking operations. In this course, all different roles in retail banking, including both customer-facing roles and middle/back office roles, are introduced and explained in detail, and all necessary skills required to develop a successful career path in retail banking are also covered. After this training, students are expected to gain not only a thorough understanding of the retail banking industry, but also all necessary information and interview tips.
Each session has a duration of 2 hours.
Session 1 – Introduction to Canadian Retail Banking Industry
• Overview of Canadian banking industry and system
• Overall structure of retail banking
• Different roles in retail banking, and career development potential of each role will be covered
Session 2 – Basic terminology in Retail Banking
• This lecture covers basic terminologies in retail banking including KYC. KYT etc.
• Details of financial products in retail banking will be shared
• Real-life cases of KYC/KYT to identify scam transaction and fraud transaction will be discussed
Session 3 – Introduction to Canadian Government Registered Account
• This lecture introduces knowledge of three different types of government registered account in Canada, which are TFSA, RRSP, and RESP
• Detailed benefit of these account and real-life case of how to combine them to make financial plan for customer will be covered
Session 4 – Interview Preparation
• Most common retail banking interview questions will be discussed
• practical interview skills and tips will be covered

This course is suitable for all levels of students and new graduates who are interested in Canadian retail banking, or are actively pursuing retail banking positions. No previous experience is required, and students with all backgrounds are welcomed.
